Milled PMMA

  • The crown is designed digitally (scan + CAD) and then cut/milled from a solid PMMA disc/block.
  • Because the material is pre-polymerized and made under controlled conditions, milled provisionals are often:
  • More consistent and accurate in fit
  • Stronger and less porous than many hand-mixed/hand-formed temporary materials
  • Smoother and more polishable, which can help with comfort and plaque resistance
  • Indications

A milled PMMA provisional crown is indicated when you need a temporary crown that provides better fit, strength, and esthetics than many chairside-made temporaries.

    Material Composition

A milled PMMA provisional crown is made primarily from PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate)—a rigid acrylic resin—manufactured as an industrial, pre‑polymerized CAD/CAM block/disc that is then milled to shape.
